Based on a works drawing of 1874, this is a typical Neilson pug of a kind widely employed by contractors, colliery owners and other industrial users. Its ogee tank, hookah dome and archaic gib-and-cotter coupling rod bosses are classic mid-Victorian features and yet several locomotives of this class were still at work in the 1950s and even beyond.
The kit's materials are used intelligently to enhance the character of the prototype - etches for the sheetmetal bodywork, lost wax valves and small details, with whitemetals for the chunkier bits, like the bufferbeams.
